Will my car insurance cover a claim that happened the same day that I bought the policy?

I just started a new car insurance policy this afternoon and then overnight there was a storm and a tree fell on my car! Am I covered?

“First, you will need to verify the effective date of the policy. Did the policy begin immediately, or at 12:01 AM the following day, or some other future effective date?
You also need to confirm that you have the right coverage for this type of claim. A tree falling on your car would be covered under your
comprehensive coverage
.
Next, the insurance company will investigate the claim to verify the date and time the damage occurred. It would be as simple as getting the police report with an accident, but with a weather-related claim, they will need to review weather data for the time and date in question, and they may even request statements from neighbors.
If they verify that the policy was in force when the tree fell on the car, then they should cover the claim. “
