Will Metromile file my SR-22?
Money has been a little tight lately, and I let my car insurance policy lapse since I don’t drive a lot. Unfortunately, I got caught driving uninsured—and now I need to get insurance and an SR-22. I think Metromile might be a good choice, but will they file an SR-22?

Oh no! We’re sorry to hear about that, but we’re sure you’ll be back on track in no time. However, **Metromile does not offer much assistance with SR-22 filings. Their website states that if you live in California or are an existing Virginia customer, they might be able to help you and to contact them for more information.
But don’t give up hope—there are many car insurance providers who file SR-22s. Major providers like GEICO, Progressive, and AAA have some of the lowest prices for SR-22s, and many smaller and local providers offer them as well.
Shopping around, comparing rates, and seeing what provider offers the most discounts will be key to saving as much money as you can. The cost to file an SR-22 is between $15 and $50, but having an SR-22 makes your policy more expensive by about 18% to 20%.
When you’ve completed your required time with an SR-22, make sure you double-check with the DMV before you discontinue it. Dropping your SR-22 too early will make the whole cycle start again—and last even longer. Good luck!
