Will extra liability insurance be enough to change my landlord’s mind about having a mastiff?

My landlord won't allow me to get a mastiff. He says my renters insurance won't cover any dog-related damages or legal fees. Can I get extra pet liability insurance to cover a mastiff, and will this be enough to change my landlord's mind about having a mastiff on his property?

“A renters insurance policy does cover personal liability, but it may have restrictions related to certain breeds of dogs, just like a homeowners policy.
