Why would my insurance rate increase if I submit an uninsured motorist claim for my Acura?

My Acura was hit in a parking lot by an uninsured motorist. I called my insurance to submit a claim, but the agent told me that my rates would increase. I have uninsured motorist protection on my policy, so I don't understand why my rates would increase.

“Claims and accidents are two factors that
car insurance
companies look at when determining a rate for an insured.
Although you weren’t at fault in the accident and have
uninsured motorist coverage
, you are still submitting a claim to your insurance. Depending on the number of claims on your record, this could begin impacting your rate.
The agent may be required by the company or law to let you know that this claim could affect your rate.
However, every insurance carrier is different. While your current carrier may rate claims more heavily or raise rates for uninsured motorist claims, this doesn’t mean that every company will.
If you do decide to move forward with a claim and your rate does increase, you should look at other carriers. You may be able to find a better rate, even with the claim on your record.
