Why won’t my Pontiac Vibe’s odometer move past 299,999?

I bought a used 2003 Pontiac Vibe from a guy back in 2015 and have been driving it ever since. Just today I saw that my mileage counter was stuck at 299,999 miles—why won’t my Pontiac Vibe’s odometer move past 299,999?

Judging by the fact that you have one of the earliest model years for this vehicle and that it seems to have been driven consistently since it was built 17 years ago, your
Pontiac Vibe’s
odometer isn’t going to move past 299,999 because it was never meant to do so (though you’ll never get Pontiac to admit that)!
Generally speaking, it’s rare for a Pontiac Vibe to reach 299,999 miles and still function well enough to drive regularly—which means both yourself and the previous owner must have done a very good job maintaining it!
If you plan to keep driving it, however, you’ll need to do one of two things:
  • Keep track of your mileage with the trip odometers
  • Have the odometer replaced with a lower-mileage one and start counting from where you left off.
Make sure your Pontiac is protected by the right insurance policy with
