Why won’t my Mazda 3 start in the cold?

Temperatures have dropped to -10ºF where I live in Rochester, NY, and it’s been tough for my Mazda 3 to handle. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to start, and other times it doesn’t start at all. Why won’t my car start in the cold?

Yikes, that is freezing! Thanks to the frigid temperature, your
Mazda 3
’s battery has less power available to it. Its stock battery has a low Cold Cranking Amps rating, which means it can’t access as much power when it’s super cold out.
Don’t fret, though! If you want to give your Mazda 3 an extra boost for those temperatures, you can install a stronger battery, like the Optima Redtop battery. It costs about $200, but it comes with a three-year warranty, so it’s worth the investment.
Once you get your Mazda up and running, make sure to practice
safe driving habits
on those wintery roads. We wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to stay home where it’s warm and cozy, either!
