Why Won’t My Car Start After Overheating?

While I was driving, my car started to overheat and then died completely. Now I can’t even get it to start, even though I gave it plenty of time to cool down. Why wouldn’t my car be starting after overheating?

I’m so sorry you’re having overheating issues. Unfortunately, overheating can cause permanent damage to your engine. If your car won’t start after overheating, there’s a good chance you have a blown gasket, which is a very serious issue.
Keeping your engine at the proper temperature is vital to keeping it running correctly. Overheating is usually caused by a problem with the coolant system. If you open the hood, you’ll probably see coolant fluid leaking everywhere.
Once the coolant system is compromised, your engine will begin to overheat which can quickly cause catastrophic and wides-spread engine damage.
Common issues that can result from overheating include:
  • Warped/ melted cylinder heads
  • Warped/ melted electronic sensors
  • Warped/ melted wires
  • Warped/ melted belts
  • Burst hoses
  • Blown gaskets
Any one of these issues can your engine not to start, and they are all very serious. The most problematic one, however, is a blown gasket. The unfortunate fact is, an overheating situation like yours can often total a car. At the very least, it will need extensive repairs.
Problems like this are a reminder that cars are only ever one bad day away from cataclysmic damages. That’s why it’s so important to periodically review your
