Why won’t my 2016 Honda Odyssey sliding door open?

It seems as if the automatic door opening button on my minivan is totally unresponsive! Do you know how to fix a 2015 Honda Odyssey sliding door that won’t open?

There are several reasons your 2015 Honda Odyssey sliding doors won’t open.
First of all, make sure your vehicle is in the proper mode for opening the door. The ignition switch can be in any position, but the vehicle must:
  • Be in Park
  • Have the dashboard “main” switch in the “ON” position
  • Be unlocked
  • Have the child locks unlocked
If the button still isn’t responding, you could be experiencing a door jam or an electrical issue. Sometimes, this is as simple as your door being frozen shut in cold weather. Other times, you’ll need the motor replaced.
If the problem persists, don’t try to solve it on your own! Your best bet is to take your Odyssey to your local Honda dealer for diagnostics. A professional can pinpoint the issue without creating more damage to your vehicle. This is all the more important if you have an extended car warranty that you do not want to void.
