Why should you put your windshield wipers up in the snow?

I just moved to Idaho from California and now that it’s winter and there’s a chance of snow, I’ve seen people start to leave their windshield wipers sticking up. Should I do that as well? Why should you put your windshield wipers up in the snow?

You should put your windshield wipers up in the snow or whenever there is a chance of snow to help prevent your rubber wiper blades from freezing to the windshield.
If you leave your wipers down and the rubber freezes to the glass, you may damage them trying to get them free, and turning on the wipers while they’re stuck in place can strain the wiper motor.
Leaving your windshield wiper blades up also makes it significantly easier to scrape away any accumulated ice or snow on your windshield, without accidentally damaging them.
Of course, some skeptics claim routinely lifting your wiper blades will prematurely wear out the springs, but this is relatively unfounded—after all, they’re built to withstand that kind of tension.
If your vehicle is damaged by inclement winter weather conditions, you’ll want to make sure you’re protected by the right insurance policy. Licensed
