Why is there a car I don't recognize coming back in my car insurance quotes?

I'm looking into new car insurance carriers and noticed that a vehicle I don't recognize is appearing in my quotes. I recently experienced a theft and I'm concerned that somehow they got a hold of my personal information. Should I be worried?

While it may be concerning to see a vehicle you don’t recognize, it most likely was a vehicle that was previously registered to your address. A family member or prior resident could have owned the vehicle.
Car insurance
carriers look at a variety of information when they're quoting you for a policy. The reports and information they receive are typically related to your name and address.
If you are still worried about it, reach out to the insurance company directly. They will be able to provide you with more information on how their reporting works. You'll also have the chance to correct any errors and ensure that the vehicle isn’t associated with your new policy.
