Why is the wrench light in my 2017 Mazda CX 5 on?

I own a 2017 Mazda CX-5 and just the other day I saw that the wrench light had turned on—what does it mean and why did it light up?

Great question! Unlike the Check Engine light, your Mazda CX-5’s wrench light doesn’t actually indicate that anything is immediately wrong with your vehicle. Instead, it serves as a maintenance reminder that triggers at certain intervals in your vehicle’s lifespan. In most cases, this will just be an oil change.
If you decide not to have your vehicle serviced after the light comes on, it can be turned off manually by following these instructions:
  • Power up your Mazda without letting it run, keeping your key in position 2
  • On the touchscreen or main menu, scroll to “Applications” and press “Vehicle Status Monitor,” followed by “Maintenance,” “Oil Change,” and finally “Reset”
  • System will ask if you want to reset the oil-change/life meter
  • Select “Yes”
That said, it is always a good idea to have your vehicle serviced when the wrench light comes on, as it can help prevent serious mechanical damage. You may also lose your vehicle’s existing warranty if you fail to perform maintenance at the scheduled intervals.
Following a regular maintenance schedule is key to keeping you safe on the road—but so is making sure you’re protected by the right insurance policy. Licensed
