Why is the dealership asking for proof of insurance before I test drive a vehicle in Arizona?

I have an old Hyundai Sonata that I'm looking to replace. I only carry liability on it due to its age. Will this be a problem when I test drive a car? If there is an accident during the test drive, is my insurance the main coverage?

The car dealership has
car insurance
on all of their vehicles. If there is an accident, their umbrella insurance policy will cover any damages as long as you were operating the vehicle with due care.
Only having
liability insurance
won’t impact your ability to test drive the vehicle. If you are planning on financing your new vehicle, the dealership could be looking at your current coverages.
Most lenders require full coverage on their vehicles. This means you would need to add
comprehensive coverage
and
collision coverage
to your insurance policy.
You should consider comparison shopping to find the best rates for full coverage. If you’d rather leave the hard work of gathering insurance quotes to someone else, use
