Why is Progressive cheaper than AAA in New York?

"My policy with AAA is up for renewal and I decided to look at other quotes online. I found a rate with Progressive that is $250 lower than what I'm currently paying.

Is there a reason why it's so low? Is Progressive a better company?"

“Every car insurance carrier is different. Each company has unique factors that they look at when determining rates for insureds.
Based on your price with Progressive, you could be meeting more of the requirements they look for in an insured. This could be why their price is lower. You may also qualify for additional discounts with Progressive that you didn’t with AAA.
Before you decide to switch, you should compare the coverage levels of your policy with AAA and the quote offered by Progressive. You’ll also want to read the terms and conditions of the Progressive policy. Coverage isn’t the same across carriers, so you want to make sure you understand the coverage you’re getting with a new policy.
While one company isn’t better than the other, one may be better suited for you based on the coverage they offer and what you’re able to afford.
