Why is my Jeep shaking?
So, my Jeep has been shaking lately. I’m pretty worried. I mean, it’s shaking a lot. It usually happens when I get up around 55 mph. I don’t know if this is a sign of something seriously wrong with it. What could cause my Jeep to shake like this?

is shaking that way. Vehicle shaking can certainly be unsettling. While unfortunate, this issue is all too common. The reason why your Jeep is shaking is it is suffering from a common condition unofficially known as the Jeep Death Wobble.Don’t panic—despite the ominous name, the Death Wobble has not yet resulted in any recorded fatalities. It is, however, a pretty serious issue that you should get repaired as soon as possible.
Here’s what can cause the Death Wobble:
- Issues with the bolts that hold the front track bar in place (this is the most common cause)
- Tires that are out of balance or defective
- Misaligned driveshaft
- Bad wheel bearing
- Loose wheel nuts
- Bad or damaged axle
- Worn suspension
- Worn steering parts
- Over or under-inflated tires
The above issues can, of course, cause vibration issues in most cars. But they seem to be a bit more common in Jeeps. More than this, they are more pronounced in Jeeps as their height can exacerbate the vibration and cause it to continue happening for a longer time.
It’s unnerving, but the truth is that the Death Wobble can significantly increase the risk of getting into an accident.
