I bought a used 2007 Honda Odyssey a couple of months ago and just recently the engine has started making a ticking noise—it seems to speed up with the engine and fades away somewhat if I drive for a while. Why is my 2007 Honda Odyssey’s engine making a ticking noise?

It sounds like your 2007 Honda Odyssey’s engine is making a ticking noise due to a bad lifter or a faulty lifter component, such as a bent push-rod. This type of issue is characterized by an incessant ticking noise that matches the engine’s speed and can become quieter once it reaches its normal operating temperature.
It’s also possible that your 2007 Honda Odyssey’s engine is ticking because the lifter isn’t getting enough oil or that the oil it is getting is too old or contaminated. If this is the case, a simple oil flush and change is all it takes to remedy the issue.
Without hearing the noise ourselves, however, we can’t give you an exact answer as to why your 2007 Honda Odyssey’s engine is ticking—it might not be the lifter at all but something like a loose valve lash or a leak in the exhaust system.
