Why is gas so expensive in Nebraska?

I’ve never seen gas prices this high in Nebraska before. What is making gas in Nebraska so expensive?

I just looked at the average gas prices for your state and—ouch, that’s some seriously pricey fuel!
There are two main reasons that gas is so high in
Nebraska
: the Coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
Firstly, the pandemic caused fuel producers to cut production as people quarantined and began to travel less. But as the country has emerged from the lock-down protocol, people are driving to work and traveling again, putting increased demand on low amounts of production. It will take a while for producers to catch up to demand, and until they do, prices will likely be high.
The war in Ukraine is also affecting our fuel supply. Russia is a major oil exporter, and many western countries have banned Russian oil imports in response to their invasion of Ukraine earlier this year. The result has been a drop in supply for the United States.
While gas prices are generally high right now, prices vary from county to county in Nebraska. Here are the counties where you can find the cheapest gas in the Cornhusker State:
  • Hitchcock: $4.559/gal.
  • Red Willow: $4.606/gal.
  • Franklin: $4.609/gal.
  • Gosper: $4.579/gal.
  • Dawson: $4.580/gal.
  • Seward: $4.609/gal.
  • Butler: $4.594/gal.
  • Colfax: $4.599/gal.
  • Madison: $4.608/gal.
  • Garfield: $4.599/gal.
  • Rock: $4.589/gal.
  • Pierce: $4.604/gal.
  • Knox: $4.563/gal.
  • Cedar: $4.527/gal.
High gas prices are contributing to an overall higher cost of car ownership. You can bring that cost down by switching
