Gas is so expensive in
Connecticut
—and just about everywhere else—for complicated reasons. For one, crude oil prices were already on the rise when Russia invaded Ukraine, prompting the European Union to put a partial ban on Russian oil, which made prices even higher.
Almost everyone is feeling the pain at the gas pump these days, including drivers in CT. As of this writing, the average gas price in Connecticut is $4.868 per gallon for regular gasoline.
It might not seem like it, but Connecticut actually has the cheapest gas prices out of all its neighboring states right now, trailed by
Rhode Island
, where it’s about four cents higher. One reason why Connecticut’s gas is a little cheaper is that the state enacted a gas tax holiday that will remain in effect through December 1, 2022.
To help you handle rising gas prices, here are some tips from
AAA
on using fuel more efficiently:
  • Keep up with your car’s maintenance, including regular oil changes and keeping the tires properly inflated.
  • Drive slowly—reducing your speed also reduces fuel consumption.
  • Don’t slam on the gas when you head out. Press the accelerator slowly to avoid eating up fuel unnecessarily.
  • Use your cruise control.
  • When approaching a stop, let off the gas and let your vehicle coast before braking.
