Why is gas so expensive in Alaska?

I’m visiting my son in Alaska for a few weeks, and while I thought I’d budgeted enough money for gas while I’m here, it’s been much pricier than I expected. Why are gas prices here so expensive?

Unfortunately for travelers nationwide, gas prices are at an all time high all over the country. Gas prices in Alaska are high for a number of socio-economic reasons including supply chain issues, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.
Compared to the national average prices of $4.812/gallon for regular gas and $5.746/gallon for diesel, current gas prices in Alaska are coming in significantly higher—**$5.558/gallon** for regular fuel and $6.113/gallon for diesel.
While you might not be able to do much about the prices you see at the pump, you can save money in other areas of your car ownership when you update your car insurance policy using
