Why is car insurance so expensive in Michigan, even for drivers with low coverage?
I have the minimum coverage available and my insurance is still $700 a month. Why is it so expensive?
“The average cost of car insurance can vary from state to state. Unfortunately, Michigan is one of the most expensive states to in which to insure a vehicle because it has the highest minimum coverage requirements in the US. Any accidents or tickets will also impact your rate.
While Michigan has a higher cost of insurance, there are many carriers that offer discounts or lower rates on average. Some insurers that have traditionally lower rates in Michigan include Safeco, Metlife, and USAA.
If you haven’t already, shop around with these carriers as well as any others in your area. You may be able to find a more affordable rate than what you are currently being offered. “

Does the gap insurance I purchased at the dealership provide coverage if my friend gets into an accident with my uninsured car?
My friend, who said they had their own car insurance, borrowed my uninsured car. They ended up getting into an at-fault accident and totaling my car. Turns out their own insurance expired, so they are uninsured as well. I have gap insurance; I'm wondering if it'll help me at all.
