Why is car insurance so expensive in Georgia compared to Florida?

I paid $100 a month in Florida. When I moved to Georgia and changed my policy address, my insurance company told me it was going to cost $300 a month for liability only. Why is my rate so much more expensive here?

The main reason why your insurance may be more expensive in Georgia is that its
state minimum car insurance requirements
are significantly higher than Florida’s.
Florida’s minimum insurance requirements
: $10,000 personal injury protection (PIP) per incident $10,000 property damage liability per incident
Georgia’s minimum insurance requirements
: $25,000 bodily injury per person $50,000 bodily injury per incident $25,000 property damage liability per incident
There’s good news, though—you might pay a higher premium in Georgia, but you also have more liability protection if you cause an accident with another driver.
Other factors could be affecting your rate as well, including the area you moved to. If there are a lot of claims and accidents where you live, your insurance rate will be higher to reflect the increased risk.
If you’re not able to afford the new rate with your insurance company after changing your address, you should look at other carriers. Try comparing
car insurance quotes
online to see if there is a better rate available elsewhere.
