Why is car insurance not affordable?
I have to have a car to get to work, but I can’t afford the high insurance. Without the insurance I can’t drive the car, so I can’t go to work. Why do companies charge so much for coverage?
“Auto insurance rates are based on the insurance company’s underwriting criteria, and while rates may be affordable for some drivers, they may appear to be astronomical for others.
Because there are so many rating factors that influence the cost of insurance, it is usually a combination of factors that negatively impact a policy rate. Many factors can be out of your control as a consumer, such as:
- Credit score (in some states)
- Zip code
- Annual mileage
- Limited driving experience
- Claims history
Understanding these factors can help you to reduce your cost of insurance over time. But if you want to make an immediate impact on your insurance bill, your best bet is to shop around for a cheaper policy.

Is it considered a lapse in coverage if I cancel my car insurance, but I stay on my parents' insurance?
I just bought a motorcycle. As such, I won't be driving a car nearly as much, if at all, in the future. I want to cancel my car insurance, and I'm still on my parents' policy for the same vehicle. Is this considered a lapse in coverage?

What is "special insurance" in New Jersey?
I was in an accident where I was not at fault; the other driver hit me! I was in the hospital for a week and my car was totaled. I find out the other driver has "special NJ insurance" and there isn't going to be any payout for my car or medical bills. How is this possible?

I don't know if my delivered watch was stolen or lost. What do I do?
"I bought a pre-owned luxury watch online and had it delivered by mail. I left the unopened package on a table by the front door and it vanished. It might have been stolen by a thief, or maybe someone in my family tossed the package without knowing there was something inside (though my family denied doing this). My home insurance covers theft, but what about loss? Can you tell me how to approach this situation, since I have no idea what happened to the watch? "
