Why does my RAM 1500 have a ticking noise when coasting?
My RAM 1500 is my favorite ride I’ve ever owned. But recently, it’s been making this weird ticking noise that seems to only occur when I’m coasting—it’s driving me crazy! What’s the probable issue causing this annoying ticking sound?

Without being able to inspect the RAM 1500 in person, diagnosing a ticking noise isn’t easy—the only surefire way to know what’s wrong is to take your truck to the mechanic. However, if your RAM 1500 has a ticking noise when coasting, one of these things could be the culprit:
- Your RAM needs a tune-up
- Issues with the CV joints
- Natural hum of the engine if you have a 5.7-liter HEMI V8
- Problems with the U-joints, especially if it sounds like rotational ticking
- Debris somewhere underneath the vehicle
- Tow/haul mode has been activated or deactivated
