Don’t worry! This is very common and nothing to be worried about. Here’s why your feet swell during car travel.
Since you’re forced to sit for a long time, the inactivity in your legs (along with good ole’ gravity) causes blood to pool in your leg veins. This results in swelling and occasionally pain.
This phenomenon is not unique to car travel. Any long-term seated travel—like flying or taking the train—can bring with it swollen feet.
Foot swelling is not dangerous and should go away once you’re able to switch positions or move around freely.
To combat the discomfort on a long road trip, take
occasional breaks
to stand up and walk around. Also flex your ankles, knees, and calf muscles to keep your legs stimulated. Hydration also helps!
Make sure you’ve got a great car insurance policy to protect you as you go.
