Why do I need health-care coverage and medical payments coverage?

"I have good health insurance and $5,000 medical payments coverage with my car insurance company.

I don't really know why I need medical payments coverage if I have health insurance. Wouldn't my health insurance just cover my injuries?"

“While
medical payment coverage
is similar to your health insurance, there are some important differences.
Medical payments coverage doesn’t usually have a deductible or copay associated with it. If you’re injured in an accident, your medical payments coverage would help cover those costs. Most traditional health insurance companies require that you pay a copay or deductible when seeking treatment.
It also covers any of your passengers who might have been injured in an accident. If they don’t have health insurance or can’t afford their medical bills, your medical payments coverage can help them.
Finally, medical payments coverage often covers things that health insurance does not. This could be as simple as covering a weekly visit to a chiropractor for injuries related to an accident. “
