Why Does My Steering Wheel Lock While Driving?
Yesterday, my steering wheel suddenly locked up while driving. Thankfully, I could steer once I turned the ignition off and on again. I’m worried it’ll happen again; what made the steering seize in the first place?

It can be scary when you lose control of your car suddenly, so we’re glad you’re safe! A problem with the power steering, steering rack, or car ignition could be to blame for a loss of steering power.
Ask a mechanic to check the:
- Car ignition system, which can lock the steering wheel if it fails while the vehicle is in motion
It's also important to consider your driving habits and those of anyone who frequently uses your vehicle. Taking sharp turns constantly can wear out the steering system.
