Why did my car insurance in California go up?

My policy is set to renew and I just found out my premium is going up from $1,000 to $2,500. I'm 21 and don't have any tickets or accidents on my record. I've been with the same carrier for the last three years and have never had a rate increase. Why would the premium go up now?

These rates can depend on a multitude of factors. Where you live, changing coverages, adding people to your policy, or even the type of vehicle you have can impact on your car insurance premium. The average cost of car insurance also varies from state to state.
