Why are certain car colors associated with accidents?

My partner and I just had our second child and we're looking at getting a second car for the family. Obviously, I want to keep my kids as safe as possible and I keep reading that certain car colors have a higher risk of accidents. Is this true? And if it is, why?

“Congratulations on your new family member! It’s more than understandable that you want to do everything to protect your family, but I’m happy to say that certain car colors having higher chances of accidents is a common myth.
While you can argue that brighter colors, like white and yellow, make it easier to be seen, there is no proof that they have lower accident rates. Similarly, there’s no proof driving a dark or black-colored car will increase your chances of an accident.
The most common cause of accidents is drivers. If someone is driving carelessly or is distracted, they’re more likely to get into an accident; the color of their car won’t change that.
The best way to protect your family is to look at cars with good
safety ratings
and to get a good insurance policy in the event that something does happen.
