with an automatic transmission!Until 2020, a manual transmission was available on every Corvette model year since 1953. However, few people buy manual transmission vehicles anymore, so Chevrolet made the business-savvy decision to cut the option from its Corvette lineup starting in 2020. Now, every new Corvette features an automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
If a $60,000+ Corvette isn’t in your budget, you should look to prior years. You can find a nice sweet spot in the 1970s and 1980s, avoiding the high cost of older classic Corvettes as well as the pricey newer models. Here’s a rundown of the automatic transmission types that Corvette offered throughout the years:
- 1953-1967: Powerglide 2-speed
- 1968-1981: 3-speed Turbo Hydra Matic
- 1982-2005: 4-speed automatic
- 2006-2014: 6-speed paddle-shift automatic
- 2015-2019: 8-speed paddle-shift automatic
- 2020-present: 8-speed DCT
