“If gas mileage is at the top of your new-car priority list, you can look to hybrid and plug-in hybrid models to get more bang for your buck. Hybrids usually provide 40 mpg or more; plug-in hybrids offer similar numbers but also an all-electric range of 20 to 40 miles, making them ideal for commuting and running-errands. The top options include the following:
- Hyundai Ioniq (59 mpg)
- Toyota Prius Prime (54 mpg)
- Honda Insight (52 mpg)
- Toyota Corolla Hybrid (52 mpg)
- Toyota Camry Hybrid (52 mpg)
Electric cars (EVs) are also a solid option, though their fuel economy is listed as miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). Tesla is the industry leader in the EV segment based on MPGe, with most models providing 100 MPGe or more.
