Which car make and model is safest to drive?

I'm a new driver and I'm just starting to look at buying my first car. Because I don't have a driving record yet and my rates are high enough—and, of course, for safety reasons—I want to do everything I can to avoid getting in an accident. What is the safest possible car or car model that I could get?

“Congrats on your first car—even if you weren’t a new driver, it’s more than understandable to try and avoid accidents. While there’s no guarantee that a vehicle will be accident-proof, safety features and safety ratings can be your best friends in trying to find the safest possible car.
If you’re looking for an official ranking system, you can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration site. This organization is part of the US Department of Transportation and reviews the
safety of vehicles
in the US. You can research the make and model of a vehicle you’re considering, or look at safety ratings based on the manufacturer.
Since you are a new driver, you may also want to consider getting a newer vehicle with modern safety features. Many vehicles made in the past few years have features like rearview cameras or lane assist, which can help avoid accidents.
Light- or bright-colored vehicles can make you more visible, but they won’t reduce your risk of an accident—the best way to do that is to drive safely and defensively.
Beyond that, be sure you have good
car insurance
to protect your new vehicle as well. One easy way to do this is through the
Jerry
app—we’ll get you multiple customized quotes from top-of-the-line providers in seconds, so you just have to pick the plan that works best for you. Once you’ve chosen a policy, we’ll even help you switch over! That way, you get all the savings and none of the hassle.
Congratulations again on your first car, and happy shopping!”
