The first Mercedes was made in Stuttgart, Germany.
The Mercedes-Benz company was initially a part of the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG), a German engineering company and auto manufacturer that was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1890. Maybach went on to design the first modern Mercedes in 1900.
By 1902, the DMG had the name Mercedes trademarked, and the company continued to produce vehicles under the name. In 1926, the company merged with Benz & Cie., a competitor of DMG, and became Mercedes-Benz.
