Where is the 2011 Honda Civic OBD port location?

My daughter’s 2011 Honda Civic has been pretty reliable, but the check engine light just came on. We don’t have the owner’s manual anymore, so I’m not sure how to find the OBD port to diagnose the problem. Where can I find it?

If your daughter’s Civic’s Check Engine Light is on, you’re wise to check it out early! Most cars have ports that are simple to access, but for the 2011
Honda Civic
, the OBD port location isn’t very easy to find. It’s underneath the driving pedals behind a plastic cover.
The 2011 Civic’s OBD port is an OBD-2 plug, which you might also see written as “OBD-II.” To scan for your Honda’s
error codes
, you can use any OBD-2 scanner to help diagnose the problem.
If you don’t own an OBD-2 scanner, you don’t have to go out and buy one just for this. You can normally use one for free at a local auto parts store like O’Reilly Auto Parts or AutoZone.
If you do have access to a scanner at home, the user manual will be your best guide in learning how to use it. If you don’t have the instructions, we’ve got your back. For most scanners, just follow these steps:
  • Make sure your car is off. Remove the plastic cover from your OBD plug, then connect the scanner.
  • Turn on your Honda, then insert any information it prompts. Most scanners will require you to input your car’s VIN.
  • Push the “scan” or “start” button and follow any prompts you see on the screen. The screen should reveal any error codes within a few seconds.
  • Record the scanner data so you can proceed with the next steps to diagnose your Civic.
Depending on your scanner, you may be able to use it to reset your Check Engine Light, too.
