Where is the 2010 Mini Cooper OBD port location?

I’ve had my 2010 Mini Cooper for about eight years, and I’ve never had any problems with it until the check engine light came on yesterday. How do I find the plug-in to scan the engine code?

It’s always a good idea to check any warning lights sooner rather than later! For the 2010
Mini Cooper
, the OBD port location is to the left of the pedals. There’s usually a cover over the socket, so removing that will reveal the plug.
The OBD socket in the 2010 Mini Cooper is an OBD-2, which is also written as “OBD-II”. This means any OBD-2 scanner will be able to read your Mini’s
error codes
to help you figure out the problem.
Don’t have an OBD scanner? Don’t worry—you can usually use one for free at your local auto parts store, like O’Reilly Auto Parts or AutoZone.
If you do have your own scanner, following the directions in the user manual will be the best way to figure out how to use it. For the majority of OBD scanners, however, the process will work something like this:
  • Make sure your car is turned off, then plug in the scanner to your Mini Cooper’s OBD port.
  • Turn your vehicle on, which will give power to the scanner, too. The scanner may prompt you to enter vehicle-specific information, like the VIN.
  • Press the “scan” button on the OBD scanner to start the process. You should see any error codes come up on the screen within a few seconds.
  • Read and record this data so you can know your next move in fixing your Mini.
After you fix the problem, you may be able to use the scanner to reset the engine light, too—but that will depend on the specific OBD scanner.
