Where do you sleep in your car when traveling?

Ever since I saw a few specials on TV, I’ve always wanted to visit Yellowstone. This year, I’m finally going to do it. But since I’m traveling from Chicago, I have quite a ways to go and a tight budget. To save money, I’ll probably sleep in my car. Where is it legal to park and sleep in your car?

Road tripping from
Chicago to Yellowstone
will be an awesome experience—one that covers 1,400 miles across six states! But I fully understand your apprehension about the costs involved.
Here’s where to sleep in your car when traveling:
  • Rest stops and rest areas
  • Bureau of Land Management areas
  • Cracker Barrel parking lots
  • Walmart parking lots
  • 24-hour gyms and gas stations
  • Truckstops
  • Empty parking lots with adequate lighting
  • Information centers
  • Welcome centers or visitor’s centers
