Where do I rest while traveling by car?

I want to drive from New York City to Key West to soak in some scenery and get out of the cold. However, Key West is far more expensive than I anticipated! To offset the cost, I thought I’d sleep in my car a few nights. Where can you legally park to sleep in your car?
