Where do I find the Kia Sorento OBD port location?

My Kia Sorento got a check engine light for the first time. A friend who knows cars said I should use an OBD scanner, but I can’t find the Kia Sorento’s OBD port location … like, where you plug it in. Little help?

In a first generation (2005 to 2009) Kia Sorento, the OBD port will be located underneath the steering wheel and above the gas pedal. In a second generation (2010 to present) Sorento, you’ll find it under a plastic cover, just beneath the fuel door and rear hatch controls to the left of the steering wheel.
The OBD port looks like something that could plug into an old-school desktop computer. It’s rectangular with sixteen small rectangular port holes, eight on top and eight on the bottom. In an older Sorento, you’ll need to get down on the driver’s side floor with a flashlight to see it well.
You’ll want to write down the codes given to you by the OBD-II scanner you’re using, and be sure to check out our handy guide explaining
how to read your car’s OBD codes
, too.
It’s also a good idea to read our guide on
what your check engine warning light means
. Check engine lights and the OBD-II scanner’s codes are often vague, so every bit of information helps. We hope this guide helps too!
