Where can you go camping in Colorado?

My family and I just moved to Colorado recently, and we want to take advantage of the natural beauty and go camping—but we don’t know where to go. Any suggestions?

Colorado has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, and camping is the best way to experience them. The only problem is deciding where to go! Here are some of the greatest spots where you can go camping in Colorado:
  • Cottonwood Pass: Just a short drive from Buena Vista, you can camp right in the middle of the Rocky Mountains—or bike, boat, fish, and hike. There are plenty of campsites to choose from, like Collegiate Peaks or Lakeview Gunnison.
  • Maroon Bells: One of the most photographed views in the state, this camping spot is right next to downtown Aspen. There are few campsites, and they’re heavily wooded, but if you can score a spot, it’s well worth it.
  • Silver Thread Byway: If you’re looking for a more primitive—and gorgeous—camping experience, this remote spot near the quaint Lake City gives you a breathtaking view of the San Juan Mountains, giant lakes, and historic ruins.
This doesn’t even scratch the surface of all of the must-see camping spots in the state, but it’s a good place to start. Before hitting the road on your outdoor adventure, though, you’ll want to make sure you’re protected with solid car insurance coverage—including towing and labor coverage. This will come in handy if you happen to get stranded on a remote mountain road.
