Where can you buy flood insurance?

Where can I get flood insurance? I live in Florida and I need to make sure I'm covered, especially with all these storms coming in.

“Private flood insurance is relatively new, so buyers like yourself may have limited choices when it comes to finding a provider.
For now, your options are the following:
  • FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), a government-subsidized policy that is available at a relatively low rate. You may even qualify for discounts depending on your location and community’s flood prevention efforts.
  • Private insurance, though prices may vary drastically from one policy to the next. While private providers will usually have a higher claim limit (the amount they’re willing to pay out for damages), they may be less reliable than FEMA’s policy.
Both of these options should provide you with adequate coverage for flood-related damages for your home. However, it may be worthwhile to look into other types of insurance—like comprehensive auto coverage—that can give you a little extra protection in the case of flood-related car damage.
