Where can you buy flood insurance?

Where can I get flood insurance? I live in Florida and I need to make sure I'm covered, especially with all these storms coming in.

“Unfortunately, private flood insurance is relatively new—so buyers like yourself will have limited flood insurance options. For now, you can choose from the following:
  • FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). NFIP is a government-subsidized policy that’s available at a relatively low rate. You may even qualify for discounts depending on your location and community’s flood prevention efforts.
  • Private insurance. While private providers will usually have a higher claim limit (the amount they’re willing to pay out for damages), they may be less reliable than FEMA’s policy. Plus, the cost of insurance may vary drastically between providers.
Either option will provide you with adequate
coverage for flood-related damage
to your home. However, your car may not be entirely covered. Investing in
comprehensive coverage
is an easy way to keep your car protected during a flood.
