A vehicle identification number, or VIN, is the identifying code for your specific vehicle. No two VINs are the same. The VIN is composed of 17 characters and is usually located on the inside frame of the driver-side door jam or on the driver-side of the dashboard near the windshield. If you cannot find the VIN on the vehicle itself, it’s also on your vehicle’s registration.
The VIN is required when purchasing
car insurance
because it provides many details about your car, including:
  • Unique features and options
  • Specifications
  • Registrations
  • Recalls
  • Warranty claims
  • Thefts
  • Damage
  • Insurance coverage
When shopping for new car insurance, look at quotes from multiple insurance companies to ensure you get the best rate. If you’d rather leave the hard work of gathering quotes to someone else, use
