Where are Suzuki cars made?

I own a 2008 Suzuki Reno, and I was thinking about upgrading to a newer Suzuki hatchback, but I just noticed that Suzukis aren’t available in the United States anymore. Where are Suzuki cars made now?

Suzuki has in fact left the American market as of late 2012. But Suzuki cars are still being made and sold elsewhere in the world—in fact, there are 35 production facilities in 23 countries including Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Argentina, New Zealand, Hungary, and Egypt.
Although Suzuki has stopped selling vehicles to the U.S., it still makes some products here. Currently, Suzuki marine motors, motorcycles, and ATVs are made in Rome, Georgia, USA.
If you’re interested in learning more about where your specific Suzuki is from, you can always
check and decode your Suzuki VIN
. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Track down your VIN in the driver’s door jamb or in your registration paperwork
  • Take a look at the first digit: this will encode your Suzuki’s country of origin
  • Take a look at the eleventh digit: this will encode your Suzuki’s manufacturing facility
Typically, you’ll see the following country codes in a Suzuki:
  • J: Japan
  • L: China
  • M: India, Thailand, Myanmar
  • S to Z: Europe
  • 8 to 9: South America
To decode your Reno’s manufacturing facility, just look up the code using an online VIN decoder.
It may have been a while since you’ve taken your Suzuki in for dealership service, so you’ll want to make sure it’s at least well-protected on the road—
