Where are Subaru cars made?

I thought Subaru was a Japanese automotive brand, but my friend just told me their Subaru came from the Midwest. Where are Subaru cars made?

Subaru cars are made at multiple assembly plants in Ota, Gunma Prefecture, Japan and the Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) assembly plant in Lafayette, Indiana.
If buying American-produced cars is important to you, then you’ll be happy to know that about half of Subaru’s production for the North American market comes out of the SIA plant in Indiana. This plant’s production includes the following models:
  • Outback
  • Ascent
  • Legacy
  • Impreza
The rest of Subaru’s production for the North American market comes out of the company’s original assembly plants in Ota. There are a few additional assembly plants throughout Asia, but they do not serve the North American market.
No matter what Subaru you drive, you can trust that it’s been made well. The brand’s reputation for reliability is evident in
how long a Subaru tends to last
. Even so, it’s important to make sure that your Subie is backed up by a well-rounded

policy.
