Where are Jeep engines made?

Nowadays I assume everything is made overseas—I couldn’t even tell you what is or is not actually “Made in the U.S.A.” I was flipping through my grandpa’s scrapbook from WW2—he drove one of those Willys Overland Jeeps around Europe. It got me thinking—where are Jeep engines made?

For the most part, Jeep engines are still made in the U.S. at the Trenton Engine Complex, in Trenton,
Michigan
, the Mack Avenue Engine Plant in
Detroit
, and the Saltillo South Engine Plant in Saltillo, Mexico.
The Pentastar V6 engine that powers Jeeps comes in three formats—3.6 liters, 3.2 liters, and 3 liters.
The Trenton, Michigan facility builds all three types of Jeep engines. This facility has been operating since 1952, and has been building Pentastar engines since 2012, after parent company Stellantis invested more than $150 million to facilitate Pentastar engine production.
Detroit’s Mack Avenue facility builds both the 3.6 liter and 3.2 liter Pentastar V6 engines. The Mack Plant has been in operation in one form or another since 1916. Jeep began building its Pentastar engines here in 2013 after a $200 million investment by Stellantis to reconfigure the plant in order to produce the engines for Jeeps.
Stellantis’ Saltillo South Engine Plant in Mexico has been in operation since 1981, and along with its production of the 3.6 liter Pentastar engine, both the supercharged Hellcat 6.2 L Hemi V8, and the 5.7 liter Hemi V8 are built in Saltillo.
