When should I change my windshield wipers?

I’m a first-time car owner. I’ve had my Honda for a few months now. I was wondering, is the windshield wiper something I ever need to change out? If so, when should I change my windshield wipers?

You should change out your wiper blades every six to twelve months.
Wiper blades are made of rubber, which wears down over time. This makes the wipers less effective. Replacing them every half a year to a year will keep the wipers doing their job correctly.
Note that you need to change the wiper blades, not the wipers themselves. Unless there is a mechanical issue or they’re broken, the wiper should last you the car’s whole lifetime!
Here are a few signs it’s time to replace your wipers:
  • Your wipers are leaving streaks
  • Your wipers are missing spots
  • Your wipers make an unpleasant noise against the glass while in motion.
