When is the best time to visit Congaree National Park?

I live in Georgia and I want to visit a national park, but I don’t want to travel too far. Congaree National Park looks interesting, so I’m thinking that’s my best bet. What’s a good time of the year to visit Congaree National Park?

Congaree is one of the least-visited national parks, so at least you won’t have to fight big crowds! If you’re heading to
South Carolina
, the best time to visit Congaree National Park is in the spring. This is when the temperatures are mild, there’s less humidity, and the mosquitoes aren’t nearly as bad.
If you’re in the initial stages of planning your trip, make sure to add some of these activities to your itinerary:
  • Kayak or canoe down the swamp-like Congaree River.
  • Hike one of the many trails, such as the Kingsnake Trail for birdwatching or the Boardwalk Loop Trail to explore an ancient hardwood forest.
  • Take a guided tour from a park ranger.
  • See the synchronous flight of millions of fireflies.
  • Grab a fishing license and try your hand at angling.
