When driving in work zones, what should you do?

The city is about to construct a new highway near my house. Construction will be heavy, but it’s still my fastest way to get to work. What rules should I adhere to when driving through a work zone?

Uh-oh! Sorry to hear about the added traffic near your home. Hopefully, you’ll have a clear path to work soon.
When driving in work zones, you should:
  • Drive slowly and don’t tailgate
  • Avoid distractions
  • Comply with directions from flaggers
  • Obey posted signage (slow speed, sharp turn, etc.)
  • Use signals properly
  • Expect delays
Work zones are locations where construction occurs near a road. You can tell you’re entering a work zone via digital and/or physical signage or flashing flights.
Penalties such as speeding and DUIs come with steeper punishments when driving near construction. Vigilance will ensure everyone, including construction workers, remains safe.
