When does my driving record clear?

I have a few tickets and accidents on my driving record, but they happened a long time ago. I want to switch car insurance companies, but I don’t want to get quotes until my driving record is a bit better. How long does it take for a driving record to clear?

When your driving record clears depends on the type of
citation
and the state where the infraction occurred. Here are some general guidelines:
  • Speeding tickets: 3 to 5 years
  • At-fault accidents: 3 to 5 years
  • Reckless driving: 5 to 10 years
  • DUI: 10 to 75 years
Because all of these tickets and incidents can cause your insurance to go up exponentially, you should definitely wait until any incidents fall off your record if you have to wait a year or less. If your driving record won’t clear for more than a year, make sure that you use
