When did Fiat buy Maserati?

Lately, I’ve gotten really interested in learning about car brands. I thought that Maserati was its own separate car brand, but it turns out that Maserati is owned by Fiat. When did this merging happen?

Isn’t the history of car brands fascinating? Fiat bought Maserati in 1993. Four years later, in 1997, Fiat sold 50% of its Maserati shares to its long-time rival Ferrari, which is also owned by Fiat.
However,
Fiat
took these shares back shortly afterwards in 1999. Then, in 2005, Maserati officially split with Ferrari and merged with
Alfa Romeo
, another Fiat subsidiary.
Maserati’s ownership status changed yet again in 2011 when Fiat acquired the
Chrysler
company, becoming Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. This represents the current ownership status of the Maserati brand, although clearly, that is subject to change!
