Fiat
doesn’t own Ferrari, but they once had a major stake in the company—they acquired a 50% share in Ferrari in 1969. Despite other potential buyers for Ferrari, FIAT S.p.A. acquired a 50% stake in the company, allowing for substantial expansion in production. From 1969 to 1988, FIAT increased its ownership from 50% to 90%, with Enzo Ferrari’s son holding the remaining 10% after his death, but the company never had full ownership of Ferrari.
The share in Ferrari lasted until 2014 when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. announced it was separating Ferrari S.p.A. from FCA. This separation was fully effected in October 2015 and completed in January 2016. However, FCA still owned 90% of Ferrari.
After the company underwent restructuring to establish Ferrari N.V. as the holding company of the Ferrari Group, FIAT Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) sold 10% of its shares and distributed the remaining 80% among FCA shareholders.
Currently, the ownership of Ferrari is as follows:
22.91% Exor N.V. (Owners of FCA)
10.00% Piero Ferrari (Enzo’s son)
