Your father may well be correct. Anti-lock brakes came out and were becoming widely used by the 1970s.
The father of the modern anti-lock braking system was Mario Palazzetti, who worked for Fiat. His invention was originally called “Antiskid,” and when it was sold to Bosch, that company renamed it ABS or anti-lock braking system.
The very first car company in the US to install an ABS system was Ford, who made it an option in the 1969 Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln Continental.
In 1978, Mercedes began installing the Bosch ABS in their cars.
Your ABS prevents your wheels from locking up by pumping your brakes much more quickly than a human could ever do. When the ABS engages, you’ll feel a rapid pulsing against your foot.
ABS has been around for a while—but as the time goes by, it seems like managing your car insurance
policy is still as difficult as ever. Meet Jerry
, the licensed insurance broker
that does all the hard work for you by gathering quotes, comparing coverage options, filling out your paperwork, and even getting you digital insurance cards. On average, Jerry users save $800+ a year on car insurance by comparing and switching on the app.
