What’s the cheapest way to weigh down a truck bed?

I’ve been having traction issues in my pickup lately, so I’m trying to find a good way to weigh the bed down. I know you can purchase weights specifically for that purpose, but I don’t have a lot of money to spend—what’s the cheapest way I can weigh down my truck bed?

The cheapest way to weigh down your truck bed is to use bags of sand or dirt. These average anywhere from $2 to $4 each.
According to truck experts, these are the weights you should add:
  • For a ½–ton pickup: add 250–300 lbs
  • For a ¾– to 1–ton pickup: add 3–400 lbs
Any heavy material can be used to weigh down your truck bed for added traction, but bags of sand or dirt are the safest. Sandbags are less likely than bricks or cinder blocks to become flying hazards in an accident.
